Apocalypse is a custom Bolliger & Mabillard stand-up roller coaster that is under construction at Six Flags America. When the ride opened in 1990, the ride was named, Iron Wolf. However, in 2011, Six Flags America announced that they were going to have a new attraction. Iron Wolf was to be relocated as Apocalypse in Six Flags America. May 25, 2012 is when the ride is expected to open.

History

Six Flags Great America (1990-2011)

On April 28, 1990, Apocalypse opened as Iron Wolf at Six Flags Great America on the former site of Z-Force, the only Intamin Space Diver model ever manufactured. On its debut in 1990, it was the tallest and fastest stand-up roller coaster in the world and the first roller coaster

In 1994, Iron Wolf appeared in the movie Ri¢hie Ri¢h as Richie's backyard roller coaster.

On August 5, 2011, Six Flags Great America announced on their official Facebook page that the Iron Wolf would be closed on September 5, 2011: "After a long 21 year history at the park, we will be removing Iron Wolf. Make sure to get your last rides in –Iron Wolf,s Last Stand is September 5". The Last Stand is also a reference for the slogan for Apocalypse

Six Flags America (2012-)

On August 22, 2011, Six Flags America announced on their official Facebook page that they would be adding a new attraction in 2012.[12] From this day, they began to slowly remove burnt pieces from a envelope to reveal the ride with an official announcement on September 1, 2011. On September 1, 2011, Six Flags announced that Iron Wolf will be relocated to Six Flags America, were it will open as Apocalypse, following its closure on September 5, 2011. The ride is expected to open on May 25, 2012, and be located in Skull Island section of the park where the former Skull Mountain used to be.

Apocalypse will be Six Flags America's first roller coaster after a decade, since Batwing opened to the park in 2001.

As of December 2011, construction has sped up with footers being dug, and the track and trains have begun arriving. On February 28, 2012, vertical construction has started by installing a track piece for the station. On April 2, 2012, Apocalypse track was completed.

Design

The ride has a twisting layout, with track going through the middle of the loop and

• The track and supports are painted dark-pink, and the running-rails are painted silver.

Trains

2 trains with 7 cars per train. Riders are arranged 4 across in a single row for a total of 28 riders per train.
