    Trip Review

    June 11, 2013 by Kata89

Well, I'm back from my trip to Universal Studios! (Obviously) So here is my trip report:

It was a 10 day trip. Three days at the parks. 2 at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure and one at Universal Studios Florida.

Because we got the early entry, the first thing we did was go to the forbidden journey. (Oh, the first day was Islands of Adventure) Even with early entry, we still waited 45 minutes for the ride, but it was worth it! The motion simulator was great! It was just a fun ride.

Then, because I need to rack up my count, I rode the Flight of the Hippogriff. Next, we hit the Incredible Hulk Coaster. It was amazing! Right from the launch, to the twist and drop, there was a great pop of airtime there. (That was my favorite part of the rid…

    RCT3 Parks

    June 8, 2013 by Alex-Sixand

I made a bunch of RCT3 parks, and my favorite is a park called EpicLand, featuring 19 coasters (yes! 19!), 3 kids sections and a whole crapload of rides.

I really want people to see EpicLand and maybe suggest ideas. Would you like me to post a picture of the park?

I have two reasons for this post, so first, lets get with the community questions.

Bucket list. I'm sure all of us have those coasters we look at and drool. (Not really, but you get what I'm saying) So, what are those Coasters/parks?

    5. Intimidator- A B&M Hypercoaster similar to Diamondback. I loved Diamondback, and I love B&M. Not to mention out and backs are by far, my favorite type of coaster.

    4. Bizarro- The "rival" to Millennium Force, that purple hyper coaster. Consistently getting 1st or 2nd in the Golden Ticket Awards... I think there's no wonder why this is in my top!

    3. Fahrenheit- A Hershey Park masterpiece. This more-than-straight-down coaster twists along the track furiously. I'm not 100% sure why this coaster is on my top... It just…

    Hola!

I got RCT3 back so I decided to check on you guys.

I was kinda expecting some random spam apocalypse or something but the wiki seems to be fine! I'm glad.

I went urban explorin' too hehe.

Few things. Well, I mean two things.

    1. Coasterpedia has five networks.. Except they don't get updated...minus Facebook. Twitter is semi-updated, and Google+ barely. I don't even think Pinterest does. And I don't even know whats going on with YouTube...

So should we remove some of the networks that we have like, no followers on? Or should we remove Pinterest? Or keep it how it is... I can take over Google+ and update that one... And Facebook and Twitter should stay, but Pinterest is kinda useless.

    2. I know, I know...I brought this up before, but the newest coasters section is still not getting updated! I really think that we should add the FaceBook feed there. (like what we have on the Navigation Bar). That way we don't have to create a mill…

The wiki is kinda in a weird place right now. Not much is happening. Which is sorta strange, speaking of which parks are opening up...

So, I think its time for a new Community Question.

How did you love roller coasters? For me, I hated roller coasters. My entire life. Back in 011' my dad forced me to ride the Diamondback at Kings Island. It was kinda a huge jump from the Gemini to a hyper coaster. After words, it opened up my eyes to coasters. I rode EVERY other coaster at the park.

That made me enjoy coasters. It didn't make me be a coaster enthusiast. What really started that was shortly after I came back from the trip, I was browsing Zelda Wiki, and I saw the CoasterPedia spotlight. Now, I just got back from my roller coaster-filled trip. S…

    Hello everyone,

I know I've mentioned this before, but I think now is the time we should move to a new host, and I have my eyes set on Wikkii.com. I've been talking to MontagnaMagica about it on Facebook recently, however we got nowhere. We did, however, agree to move the Tilt-a-Wiki to Wikkii and see how it goes, and I'm currently waiting for Wikkii to get back to me.

I could type for days about why I feel we should leave Wikia, so I will do a brief summary. Feel free to ask me more about a particular point.

    1. Wikia is a company that only cares about money. Thus logged out users have adverts coming out their ears.
    2. Wikkii have no "Spotlights" or links to other wikis. The only link to Wikkii is small and at the bottom. This should allow us to kee…

It's almost that time of year when the parks from around the world begin to open up full-time. That also means that it's time for our wiki to try for a Wikia spotlight!

If you have a picture you think we should use, please post it below! Keep in mind that the final image will be 255x123 (give or take a pixel or two (don't resize it yourself, Wikia will handle that))

Well, its that time of year when the trips are just around the corner. With amusement parks opening up in 10-50 days, I think its time to start talking spotlight...again...

We usually request spotlight once a year (about this time of year) because of the parks opening up. Do you guys think we should request it again, or should we wait another year or so? Please give your opinion. I really think that if we spotlight again, we might get some user's. And with the wiki in a much better shape, we might get user's that stay.

I have a confession to make

    February 19, 2013 by Kata89

I have a confession to make. When I joined this wiki 2 years ago, I was actually 12. (if it was not obvious with my spelling, lack of deep understanding, etc.) Thus I am currently 14.

The reason I have lied these past 2 years about my age, was because when I joined Wikia back in '11, I was young, and I was trying to keep my identity a secret, and so I changed my age. (Also keep in mind that I was going to be talking with random people, and there's lots of perverts out there, so I decided to make myself older.) I have, since joining, regretted that. I hate lying. And I wanted to go back, but because I already said that I was 24, there was no going back. (Also, it was such a big jump)

I am greatly sorry for lying to all of you these past years…

The dismiss would be a link to close it. I am not sure if this is a ad, something about my computer or some new 'feature' we added or something. I'll update blog if I find any new information. Oh, and happy new year's everybody!

This may be my most bizarre idea yet, but I have found another free wiki host that runs MediaWiki, uses standard Vector (Wikipedia) or MonoBook skins and has minimal adverts! If we could move our wiki to that host, then IMHO it would be the best thing that has ever happened to Coasterpedia.

    • 1 Thing that will change
    • 2 Things that will stay the same
    • 3 Things we will loose
    • 4 Something to be aware of

    • The default skin - either Vector or MonoBook (or Monoco, but who would want that?!)
    • Users will have to re-register for their accounts, meaning maybe (I'm not sure) edit counts will reset to zero.
    • Our domain would change to "rollercoaster.wikkii.com" - slightly longer, but still fine

    • MediaWiki - Hooray!
    • Edit histories, user contribs etc
    • Monobook skin - We can make i…

    Standard Page Outline

    December 10, 2012 by MontagnaMagica

, the future "model article".]]We've had numerous discussions over how to format a page here, and it has been changed so much! Change is a good thing, but it has its downsides too...

As it is right now, there are about five different styles of pages here on the wiki; the old infobox, the new infobox, the old category structure, the new category structure, logos at the top, endless variations!

As soon as possible, I'm asking fellow Coasterpedians to edit just one article on a coaster. Collaborate, and perfect it so that we have a standard format set. From there, we can use that article as a standard on which to base all our future articles.

The article to work on will be Balder. Let me know if you have questions or suggestions, and feel free to…

Hi all! I am so sorry for being inactive for a few weeks. I have been busy with personal and business matters so my time on here just could not happen. But anyway, this is the next installment of the Commnunity Questions blog series!

Here is the question, if you could, for now on, go to an amusement park and all the lines would be walk on, OR, go to an amusement park, and the lines are the same as they are now. (Meaning that nothing will happen. You have to be strategic about what your going to ride to get a shorter line, etc.)

For me, I would not want a pretty much walk-on experience. For me, part of the experience is the wait. Sure, you don't want to wait 2 hours for a ride, but I think part of the fun is the adrenaline of waiting and being …

So, I've been doing a lot of polls lately since I started editing this Wiki and I've lately been finding a lot of arguments evolving in the creation of Magic Mountain vs. Cedar Point. I want to know what this Wiki thinks: out of all the parks, which one is best? Post your vote in the comments and every week, I'll have certain standards. For example, PARKS WILL BE ELIMINATED ON SATURDAY IF THEY DON'T HAVE ANY VOTES OR LESS THAN TWO. Then, I'll raise it each week by 5 more votes. Lastly, when I get to the Top Two Parks still in the competition, I want to know reasons why they should be Best Park. Whichever park wins this contest will be my homepage pic until next poll! Newest nominees are in bold, as well as the total amount of votes for ever…

Wikia have recently added the Videos button to our navigation, and I don't think it helps Coasterpedia. Here is why:

    • Lets users add videos without actually adding a page for the roller coaster (meaning unrelated videos will start to pop up, and us admins will have to delete them).
    • We have too many videos for it to be useful - It is much easier to search for a roller coaster with the Go-Search.
    • Too much like YouTube. Just like how Message Walls look like Facebook.
    • It uses the word "Trending". WIKIA IS NOT A SOCIAL NETWORK! It is obvious that Trending is referencing Twitter.

    What do you think?

Also, the Special:Videos page will always be there, even if the link if removed, meaning you can still view it and find out which videos are "Trending" :P

    New-look templates

I have changed the stub template, and added a new yet-to-open template (See it on Full Throttle). As you can see, I have got ride of the massive box, and made it smaller. Personally I think it makes it look much smarter, but what do you guys think.

Also, I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks this, but I would really like to get ride of the Visual Editor (RTE). I made a poll below, and if everyone agrees, we could maybe contact Wikia and have it removed. Comments apreciated :)

Hello all! I've noticed that Lachlan has been finding rides' official logos, and adding them to the coasters' pages. Great! Only problem is, where should they be placed on the page?

Currently, they are being placed at the top of the page, left of the infobox, and above all the text. I've never seen a wiki formatted this way, so is that OK? We do need to remain as professional as possible.

I think the logo would be better suited in the infobox under the ride's name. I'll use Air as an example page. For comparison, see Goliath (Six Flags Magic Mountain), which uses the current in-article version.

Go check them out and help decide! Thank you!

    • Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland
    • Ultimate at Lightwater Valley
    • or this one (Dragon Khan and Shambhala at PortAventura Park)

I also took off the transparency effect, this is so I can put white pixels behind the content area, meaning I don't have to compress the picture as much.

    Wiki Backround

    September 20, 2012 by Kata89

As you have noticed already, the backround to the wiki has changed. The reason is a new Wikia update that requires more pixels in the backround. The current backround (behemoth at Canada's Wonderland) was just added by our newest admin, Lachlan. Here, we can discuss the backround we will have.

Personally, I like the backround. But I think we should use a real image.

Update: You can view these changes by adding ?wikiagrid=1&wikiafullheader=1 to the adress bar of the main page or an article!

Lachlan5963 has made two backgroounds, one of Kingda Ka, and one of Behemoth. Which do you prefer?

Here is the fourth installment of the community questions blog series!

Here is the question: What was your worst experience on a roller coaster if you had any? This could be a ride that was so high, fast, rough, or just painful so you could not enjoy it.

Mine, is on the Mantis at Cedar Point. I didn't think that B&M could make such a bad roller coaster. Starting at the diving loop element, I had pain in my ankles the entire ride. It was the only time on a roller coaster when I was thinking; "I want off..." I'm not sure if that's how are stand ups are or not, but it was a horrible experience. The track layout is great, but it was a horrible train design. I want CP to convert mantis to a Floorless.

    But what's yours? Please comment.

    , LOL!]]

Just thought I would make a blog about the 'new' 2013 ride for Six Flags St. Louis because I like making blogs :P

So Six Flags revealed it is (almost defiantly) a Boomerang. Also, Flashback at Six Flags Over Texas is shutting down, which means SFsL will be getting it (most likely).

If you look at the Facebook comments then you can see no-one is happy LOL. I really hope it is re-painted, and maybe a new train would be added: This would make it a bit better. I have never been on a Boomerang, so have no idea what they are like. I know Mont likes them however.

The reveal is on 30th August 2012, so we will find out exactly what's happening then. Maybe, it's just a trick, and Six Flags are actually being clever with it (Wishfull thinking!), a…

Okay, here is the second question in the series!

It is become clear that record-breaking coaster's are becoming fewer and fewer. The height record has not been challenged for 7 years, the speed record for 2 years, and no one seems to dare go over 12 inversions? Is 150 MPH and 12 inversions all the human body can take before its not fun anymore? Sure, Silver Dollar City is challenging the woodie's with a behemoth and a multi-looper. But is there no need for these giants anymore? Now with coaster's like flying, multi-dimension, winged, etc. is the height and speed not matter anymore?

So, this leads to our community questions, do you think the era of record breakers is nearly over, or still raging? Also, do you want the era to end, or do you th…

I rode everything worth riding, including four of the five coasters (The Ultimate, Twister (Reverchon spinner), Raptor Attack (Schwarzkopf WildCat in the dark) and Caterpillar (Zierer Tivoli family coaster)). Also rode all the flats worth riding too.

The best ride in the park is The Ultimate, and I rode it. I would go as far as saying it is the best roller coaster I have ever been on! It is the second longest in the world (1.5 miles long) and so lasts over 5 mins. The second half of the ride is very thrilling especially, with banks curves through the forest. New coaster sorting

    July 24, 2012 by Lachlan5963

How we sort the coasters have always been a bit weird so I have come up with this (I told Mont already over chat).

We have two main categories, just like the RCDB:

    1. The track material, so Steel or Wood.
    1. The train type (4th Dimension, Bobsled, Flying, Inverted, Pipeline, Sit-Down, Stand-Up, Suspended, Floorless, Spinning). A roller coaster can only be in ONE of these.
    1. Then we have a third category like: Kiddie, Family, Ball Coaster, Wild Mouse, Mine Train, Enclosed etc etc. More than one of these can be added but it is rare more than one would happen.

This means that wooden coasters are also sit-down coasters, but then wooden coasters can be bobsled, or spinning instead.

I can set the new infobox to automatically categorize coasters based on this…

    A few things...

    June 30, 2012 by Lachlan5963

Instead of just bothering the admins with a talk message, I will make a blog of it instead. I've noticed many fictional pages being made. Although I know a lot of these are just spam, we should put a message on the home page so everyone knows its about real coasters, to avoid confusion.

Also, we need a new featured article soon, so I suggest ShockWave.

Another thing, are we ready to restart the ratings system? I just don't want to start it until everyone agrees.

Last of all, I am going to Lightwater Valley in the summer! Not quite Cedar Point I know, but I'm still looking forward to it! Can't wait to ride the second longest roller coaster in the world.

I would like to bring back the idea of the talk page polls and reviews. We are getting more users now and I would assume that more are likely going to come.

In case you don't know, the page polls and reviews is basically this:

Write a review of this roller coaster here!

Using this type of talk page, there is a poll you can use, you can write a review, and still be able to discuss the article. I'm not actually sure why we got rid of it, but we did. I thought it was fun thing. So, I would like to discuss whether or not we should bring this type of talk page back. Please comment.

    The Vulcan

    June 14, 2012 by Kata89

Here I have one of my dive machine coasters, The Vulcan!

Its a B&M, (Why would I use anyone else?) 177 foot monster.

    Excitement: 7.37 Intensity: 4.58 Nausea: 2.15

I would put some pictures of the ride, but for some crazy reason, my computer won't let me. But, I have a lovely POV that, for some reason...has no sound... Here is the link to the video. It will play automatically. http://s1247.photobucket.com/albums/gg627/kata891/?action=view&current=Movie0000.mp4

    Enjoy the ride!

    RCT3 stuff

    May 31, 2012 by Lachlan5963

In RCT3, I was making a roller coaster (with 13 inversions!) and came up with this weird element. Its a Batwing, but instead of going straight down then back up, the track curves back towards the entrance, then turns and repeats. I thought this would work on a real coaster, what do you guys think?

(PS: I hope you dont mind me uploading screenhots like that to the wiki, if you do then delete it :P)

Also, the year category's don't work too well, as they show the original opening, not the opening if that ride was relocated. That's why I think we should add the opening category to the article as the opening at it's current location, (eg: 2012) then add the other date to the redirect, (eg: 1985). Wikipedia does this - i think it's a good idea. Co…

    Favorite Coaster

    May 26, 2012 by Trackstar

Hey which coaster do you like best?

DO NOT Judge the pictures, Judge the coaster type. The pictures are examples only.

What score would you give a Strata Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 7

What score would you give a Giga Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 8.5

What score would you give a Hyper Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 8

What score would you give a Kilo Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 8

What score would you give a Family Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 5.75

What score would you give a Kiddie Coaster? (Out of 10).

    Average Score: 4.5

Leave your scores in the comments. I'll post the averages when I get enough scores.

Congratulations everyone! Wikia has approved our wiki for yet another spotlight! This means that our wiki will be cross-advertised across thousands of other wikis around the Wikia network.

Be prepared for a significant boost in visitors within a few weeks. Let's all be as friendly and helpful as we can; this is a big opportunity to gain some more enthusiasts in our community to help us reach our goals!

In the meantime, let's keep the wiki looking good, and continue to add content (I promise to start helping out again this week).

    RCT-Showcasing?

    May 16, 2012 by Kata89

I was thinking to myself while on CoasterForce, 'Why not show our RCT3 creations and stuff, in Coasterpedia, in our blogs?'

So, I will now like to present that idea. Why not give users the ability to show-off their RCT3 creations? We could have contests, on how realistic is it and stuff like that. I think, especially now we are going to be on spotlight, it will attract users. They can actually post their RTC projects here on coasterpedia. And, I think if we wanted to be really crazy, and if we did do the contests, we could have a section in our home page on the featured coaster the previous month. We would do this all in our blogs. I really do think this would be a fun thing to do. Tell me what you think in comments!
