Bolliger & Mabillard (commonly known as "B&M") is a roller coaster design consultancy based in Monthey, Switzerland. The company was founded in 1988 by former Intamin engineers Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard, with Bolliger acting as president and Mabillard as vice-president. Since 1990, B&M has built over eighty roller coasters around the world and have pioneered several new ride technologies, most notably the inverted roller coaster. The company started with four employees and has since grown to more than thirty people, mostly engineers and draftsmen. They are known for their Dive Roller Coasters, their Floorless Roller Coasters, their Inverted Roller Coasters, their Wing Coasters, their Sit down coasters, their Hyper Roller Coasters, their Flying Coasters and their Stand-Up Roller Coasters.

Signature features[]

  • Pre-drop

Most B&M coasters feature a pre-drop, which consists in a small slope down before the main drop, which is made to reduce the liftchain tension. Newest B&M coasters currently lack of this element.

  • 4-in-a-row cars

Unlike most coaster manufacturers who normally build coaster cars with 2-2 configuration, B&M feature trains with 4 passengers in a row, which allows more flexibility for closer turns and inversions.

  • Silent tracks

Most B&M tracks are filled with sand to reduce the noise of the train passing throuhg, however some coasters like Incredible Hulk and Kumba have an empty track to recreate the growl of Hulk and African beasts respectively.

Trivia[]

  • None of B&M coasters built in 2000 had a floor.
