The simply named Roller Coaster is a wooden roller coaster located at Lagoon in Farmington, Utah, USA. It was designed by John A. Miller and opened in 1921, making it the seventh oldest roller coaster operating today.

History

Roller Coaster is a John A. Miller creation and a true wonder. John A. Miller invented many of the safety features of modern roller coasters, such as upstop safety wheels (Wheels under the track) and the anti roll back on the lift hills. Lagoon has a great treasure here and hopefully they never replace it.

When it opened in 1921, the Roller Coaster was the second coaster to be built at the park.

In 1953, a fire damaged the Roller Coaster, and burnt down the most of the current midways at the time. The lift hill and station had to be rebuilt and the trains were replaced as well.

Lagoon has decided to not paint the coaster anymore. They are using pressure treated lumber now and painting the ride is not needed. It has always been expensive to paint it and it made safety inspections hard. So they rebuild sections every year and now as they do them the ride will be turning wood color.

In 2007, Roller Coaster became an ACE Coaster Landmark, which a great honor the plaque is at the exit of the ride take a look next time you ride her.

Name

The ride has never really had a name other than simply "Roller Coaster". It is often called the "White Roller Coaster" by locals.

Layout

The ride begins with a turn out the station which leads to the lift hill. Guests reach heights of 60 feet (18 meters) before plummeting down the first drop and over a hill, then back up again into the west turn. A series of air-time hills follow, getting smaller as the velocity of the train drops. There are two more turns, then the train returns to the station.
